Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) is oxidized and destroyed by the action of indole-3-acetic acid oxidase, losing its activity. The activity level of indole-3-acetic acid oxidase in plants plays an important role in regulating the level of indole-3-acetic acid in the body, which affects plant growth. In the presence of inorganic acids, indole-3-acetic acid can react with FeCl3 to form a red chelate, which has a maximum absorption peak at 530nm; the enzyme activity can be represented by the speed at which it destroys indole-3-acetic acid. The content of indole-3-acetic acid can be measured using colorimetric methods.
