Sucrose tryptone broth
Sucrose tryptone broth is a liquid medium for selective enrichment of Vibrio cholerae. Its basic component provides nitrogen source for tryptone and sucrose as fermentable carbon source. The key additive is high concentration sodium chloride to create an alkaline hypertonic environment. This culture medium uses the alkali-resistant characteristics of Vibrio cholerae to inhibit the growth of miscellaneous bacteria, and the target bacteria ferment sucrose to produce acid, which makes the phenol red indicator change from red to yellow, thus realizing rapid screening. It is a standard enrichment solution for the detection of Vibrio cholerae in water and food samples.
