Cytochrome P450 enzymes are a group of isoenzymes primarily found in the liver, playing an important role in the metabolism of exogenous substances, especially drugs and toxins. Cytochrome P450 and cytochrome b5 are two heme proteins of the P450 enzyme system, and the variation in their ratio is closely related to P450 metabolic activity. The oxidized form of cytochrome b5 has a maximum absorption peak at 424nm after reduction with sodium dithionite. By measuring the difference in absorbance at 424nm and 490nm, the content of cytochrome b5 can be calculated.
