Ampicillin McConkey agar
Ampicillin McConkay agar is a medium for selective isolation of gram-negative bacteria and identification of Escherichia coli. Its basic components are peptone, bile salt and lactose, and its key additives are ampicillin and neutral red indicator. Bile salt inhibits gram-positive bacteria, and ampicillin further inhibits sensitive bacteria; Escherichia coli fermented lactose to produce acid to form red colonies, while non-fermentative bacteria were colorless and transparent colonies. The culture medium is widely used for the detection of ampicillin-resistant Escherichia coli in medicines and foods.
