BSSA medium

BSSA medium is a solid medium for selective isolation and identification of Bacillus cereus. Its basic ingredients are peptone, beef extract powder and mannitol, which provide basic nutrition; The key additives are polymyxin B and yolk emulsion. The former inhibits Gram-negative bacteria, and the latter is used to detect lecithin enzyme activity. Bacillus cereus does not ferment mannitol and is positive for lecithin enzyme, forming pink colony with milky white precipitation ring, which realizes rapid identification and is widely used in food hygiene inspection.
