Acidified K medium
Acidified K medium is a low pH solid medium for selective separation of lactic acid bacteria. It adjusts the pH to 5.5 on the basis of standard K medium, and inhibits the growth of most non-target bacteria by using acidic environment. The basic components are peptone, yeast extract powder and glucose, which provide nitrogen and carbon sources; The key additives are Tween 80 and sodium acetate to maintain the selection system. Lactic acid bacteria can still grow and ferment glucose to produce acid under this acidic condition, which makes the indicator around the colony yellow, and is widely used in the separation and identification of acid-resistant lactic acid bacteria in fermented food.
