R5421 Chemically Competent Cell
R5421 Chemically Competent Cell
![]() The R5421 brewing yeast strain is a K/potassium ion-deficient strain, also known as CY162 in the literature, and is of MATα type. It is commonly used in assays for identifying K/potassium ion transport proteins, and can also be used in assays for identifying K/potassium ion channels or sodium-potassium ion pumps. The transformation markers are: ura3, leu2. This strain can grow normally in media containing 100mM KCl, grows slowly in media containing 5-10mM KCl, and ceases to grow when the KCl concentration in the medium is below 0.5mM. R5421 (CY162) cells stop growing under these conditions. R5421 competent cells are prepared using a special process and can be stored at -80°C for 12 months. The pGADT7 plasmid (7988bp, AmpR) shows a transformation efficiency of >104 cfu/μg DNA.
