5196 is an Agrobacterium rhizogenes containing pRi1193 agroalkaline Ri plasmid. It can carry out genetic transformation by inducing plants to produce hairy roots, and is especially suitable for hairy root induction of leguminous and solanaceae plants. The strain is resistant to carbenicillin, streptomycin and rifampicin. The transformation efficiency of competent cells is usually ≥ 10 cfu/μ g DNA. This kind of strain carries Ri plasmid, which can induce plants to produce hairy roots, and is often used in root biology research and production of secondary metabolites.
