BL21(DE3) strain is used to efficiently express genes cloned in expression vectors (such as pET series) containing bacteriophage T7 promoter. The DE3 region of λ phage contains T7 phage RNA polymerase, which is integrated on the chromosome of BL2, so it is called BL21(DE3). It can simultaneously express T7 RNA polymerase and Escherichia coli RNA polymerase, and can be used for protein expression of pET series, pGEX, pMAL and other plasmids. Efficient expression of genes cloned in expression vectors (such as pET series) containing bacteriophage T7 promoter.
