W303a is a standard experimental strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and its genotypes are mataade2-1ura3-1his3-11, 15trp1-1leu2-3, 112can1-100. Because of its clear genetic background (including multiple auxotrophic markers), this strain is widely used in basic research such as gene function, DNA repair and cell cycle. Notably, ybp1-1 mutation carried by W303a will increase its sensitivity to oxidative stress. In addition, the study shows that the extracellular protease secretion pattern is different from other common laboratory strains (such as BY4742), which is an important feature in industrial biotechnology application. W303a is one of the classic models in molecular biology and genetics of yeast.
