DH5α λpir

DH5α λpir is an engineering strain of Escherichia coli, and its key feature is that λpir phage is integrated into the genome. The phage can specifically recognize and utilize π protein encoded by pir gene, thus efficiently replicating the R6Kγ replicon vector dependent on this protein. This makes DH5α λpir especially suitable for the construction and proliferation of plasmids containing R6Kγ replication origin, such as suicide plasmids commonly used in bacterial conjugation or transposon mutagenesis experiments. The strain also inherited the advantages of DH5α, such as recA1 and endA1 mutations, which can effectively inhibit homologous recombination and eliminate nuclease activity, and is conducive to stable cloning and high-quality extraction of plasmid DNA.
