Bacteroides-bile-aescin (BBE) broth
Bacteroides-bile-aescin (BBE) broth
Bacteroides-bile-aescinate (BBE) broth is a liquid medium for selective identification of Bacteroides fragilis. Its basic components are peptone and yeast extract powder, and its key additives are bile salt, aescin and ammonium ferric citrate. Bile salt inhibited the growth of Bacteroides, and the escin produced by the hydrolysis of escin by target bacteria combined with iron ions to form a dark brown precipitate. The broth can rapidly detect Bacteroides fragilis by dark brown precipitation, which is a common tool for clinical anaerobic bacteria identification.
