Bacteroides-bile-aescin (BBE) agar
Bacteroides-bile-aescin (BBE) agar
Bacteroides-bile-aescinate (BBE) agar is a solid medium for selective isolation and identification of Bacteroides fragilis. Its basic components are peptone and yeast extract powder, and its key additives are bile salt, aescin and ammonium ferric citrate. Bile salt inhibits the growth of Bacteroides, and the escin produced by the hydrolysis of escin by target bacteria combines with iron ions to form dark brown colonies or halo. The agar can quickly identify Bacteroides fragilis through typical dark brown characteristics, and it is a standard culture medium for clinical anaerobic bacteria separation and identification.
