△MAM3 is a genetically engineered strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae for studying mitochondrial iron homeostasis and heme biosynthesis. The strain deleted MAM3 gene (also known as MRS3/4 homologue) by gene knockout technology, which encodes an iron transporter located in the inner membrane of mitochondria, and is mainly responsible for transporting cytoplasmic iron to the mitochondrial matrix for heme synthesis and iron-sulfur cluster assembly. Its deficiency leads to insufficient iron intake in mitochondria and affects the function of respiratory chain. This strain is a common model for studying mitochondrial iron metabolism and related diseases.
