△CUP2 is a genetically engineered strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae used to study copper ion homeostasis and oxidative stress response. The strain deleted the CUP2 gene by gene knockout technology, which encodes a copper ion-responsive transcription factor and is responsible for activating the expression of metallothionein (such as CRS5) and other copper detoxification-related genes. Its deletion leads to a significant decrease in the tolerance of yeast cells to copper ions and affects the balance of oxidative stress. This strain is an important model to study the mechanism of metal toxicity, stress response of eukaryotic cells and detoxification pathway of heavy metals.
