△azg1 is an engineering strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae used to study purine metabolism and uric acid transport. AZG1 gene was deleted by gene knockout in this strain, which encodes a high affinity uric acid /H+ co-transporter and is responsible for uric acid uptake. Its deletion leads to yeast cells not being able to absorb exogenous uric acid effectively, and the growth of yeast cells is limited in the medium with uric acid as the only nitrogen source.
