△zrc1 cot1 is mainly used to detect protein zinc transport function through yeast complementary experiment. It is an engineering strain that simultaneously knocks out ZRC1 and COT1 genes in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Both genes encode zinc ion transporters (mainly located in vacuole membrane), which play a key role in maintaining zinc ion homeostasis in cells. Their double deletion is expected to lead to serious damage to the storage capacity of zinc in vacuoles of yeast cells, which may show high sensitivity to zinc ion toxicity or unbalanced distribution of zinc in cells. Such strains are usually used to study metal ion homeostasis, metal toxicity tolerance mechanism and related human disease models.
