YSH7.4-3C
YSH7.4-3C
YSH7.4-3C is a mutant strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae used to study the function of hexokinase. The main feature of this strain is that hexokinase genes (such as HXK1, HXK2, etc.) in the genome are knocked out, which makes it impossible for it to grow by using hexose such as glucose or fructose as carbon source. In the research of molecular biology, YSH7.4-3C is often used as the host of functional complementation experiments: after the exogenous target hexokinase gene (such as cassava MeHXK1 gene mentioned in the literature) is transferred into the strain, if the strain recovers the ability to grow on the culture medium with hexose as the sole carbon source, it is proved that the exogenous gene has the enzymatic activity of glucophosphorylated. Therefore, it is an ideal tool model to identify the function of hexokinase gene and its catalytic effect.
