△pmr1 is an engineered yeast strain with a single gene deletion of the pmr1 gene, a key gene. The core function of the pmr1 gene is to encode a calcium/manganese ion pump located on the Golgi membrane, which plays an indispensable role in maintaining cellular calcium homeostasis, supporting the processing and sorting of proteins, and manganese ion detoxification by regulating the ion concentration within the Golgi apparatus. △pmr1 is abnormally sensitive to high of calcium or manganese ions in the environment because the cells lose the ability to isolate these ions.
