EY917 Yeast strain
EY917 Yeast strain
EY917 is an engineered yeast strain for studying the function of plant phosphate transporters. Its key feature is the deletion of multiple endogenousate transporter genes (such as pho84, pho87, pho89, pho90, and pho91) in the genome resulting in its inability to absorb phosphate ions, making it a phosphate transport-deficient type. To ensure the strain's survival during experimental operations, EY91 also contains a GAL1 promoter induced by galactose, which expresses the yeast's own PHO84 transporter gene on a plasmid. Therefore, when cultiv and expanding this strain, it is necessary to culture it in a medium with galactose as the carbon source. When an exogenous plant phosphate transporter gene (such asbPht1;1) is expressed in this strain and functionally complemented, the strain recovers its phosphate transport capacity.
