△pmc1 pmr1 Yeast strain
△pmc1 pmr1 Yeast strain
△pmc1 pmr1 is an engineered yeast strain with two gene deletions, which is created by deleting the PMC1 and PMR genes simultaneously. Pmc1 encodes a P-type calcium pump located in the vacuolar membrane, which is responsible for the active transport of calcium ions from the cytopasm into the vacuole for storage; the PMR1 gene encodes a P-type ATPase located on the Golgi membrane, which is mainly responsible for pumping calcium (Ca2⁺) and manganese ions (Mn2⁺) from the cytoplasm into the Golgi lumen, thereby maintaining the ion homeostasis the cell. The double deletion results in a severe impairment of the yeast cytoplasmic calcium ion buffering capacity, an abnormally high sensitivity to a high-calcium, and a significant decrease in the vacuolar calcium storage function. This strain is an extreme-sensitive model for the study of calcium ion homeostasis, calcium signal transduction and vacuolar calcium storage function.
