Improved Roche medium foundation

The improved Roche medium is a solid medium for selective isolation of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Its basic components are asparagine, potassium dihydrogen phosphate and magnesium sulfate, which provide nitrogen source and essential ions; Key improvements include adding sodium pyruvate to promote the growth of mycobacteria, and malachite green to inhibit miscellaneous bacteria. This culture medium supports the slow growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (forming rough colonies) in acidic environment through selective components and inhibitors, and is a standard culture medium for bacteriological diagnosis of tuberculosis.
