Hemolytic (0.1%) Hershey agar is a solid medium for selective separation of leptospira. The basic ingredients are peptone and beef extract powder, and the key additives provide essential fatty acids and growth factors for 0.1% rabbit hemolyzed blood. The buffer system adopts phosphate to maintain pH stability. This culture medium promotes the formation of surface biofilm of leptospira under aerobic conditions at 28-30℃ by dissolving lipid substances released from blood, and is a special tool for the separation and culture of leptospira in water quality and clinical specimens.
