Hemolytic agar is a solid medium for the separation and culture of leptospira. The basic ingredients are peptone and beef extract powder, and the key additives provide essential fatty acids and growth factors for rabbit hemolytic blood. Agar is used as coagulant. This culture medium promotes the formation of surface biofilm of leptospira under aerobic conditions at 28-30℃ by dissolving lipid substances released from blood, and is a special tool for the separation and culture of leptospira in water quality and clinical specimens.
