Sodium bicarbonate agar base

Sodium bicarbonate agar base is a solid medium for capsule induction of Bacillus anthracis. The basic ingredients are peptone and beef extract powder, and the key additives are sodium bicarbonate and serum. When cultured in 5-10% CO environment, sodium bicarbonate can induce Bacillus anthracis to produce capsules. The strains with capsule form smooth and mucinous colonies, while the strains without capsule are rough. The virulence identification is realized through this morphological difference, which is a special culture medium for detecting the virulence characteristics of Bacillus anthracis.
