CM4 medium

CM4 medium is a solid medium for selective separation of lactic acid bacteria. Its basic components are peptone and yeast extract powder, and the key additives are sodium acetate and manganese sulfate. The former maintains acidic environment to inhibit miscellaneous bacteria, while the latter promotes the growth of lactic acid bacteria. The culture medium supports the formation of typical colonies of lactic acid bacteria through low pH conditions and specific ion combinations, and is a standard tool for the separation and counting of lactic acid bacteria in dairy products and fermented foods.
