Nitrate peptone water medium

Nitrate peptone water medium is a liquid medium for microbial nitrate reduction test. Its basic components provide nitrogen source for peptone and beef extract powder, and potassium nitrate is used as nitrate source; Duchenne tube is used to detect gas production. After inoculation and culture, sulfanilamide and α -naphthylamine reagents were added, and the solution turned red, indicating that nitrate was reduced to nitrite. If there is no discoloration, zinc powder should be added to check whether it is further reduced. This test is an important biochemical index for identification of Enterobacteriaceae and other bacteria.
