Basis of potassium cyanide (KCN) medium

Potassium cyanide medium is a selective liquid medium for identification of Enterobacteriaceae. Its basic components are peptone and sodium chloride, and the key additive is potassium cyanide as an inhibitor. This culture medium can screen strains (such as Enterobacter aerogenes) with potassium cyanide resistance by inhibiting the respiratory chain of potassium cyanide, and it is a common identification tool in clinical microbial identification.
