Salmonella culture medium is a solid culture medium for selective separation of Salmonella. The basic ingredients are peptone and beef extract powder, and the key additives are bile salt, brilliant green and sodium thiosulfate. This culture medium inhibits coliform bacteria and Gram-positive bacteria through the combination of inhibitors. Salmonella forms colorless and transparent colonies because it does not ferment lactose. It is a standard tool for detecting Salmonella in food and clinical samples.
