MMRS medium

MMRS medium is an improved solid medium for selective separation of Lactobacillus. Its basic components are peptone and beef extract powder, the key additives are sodium acetate to maintain acidic environment, manganese sulfate to promote growth, and Tween 80 as emulsifier. This culture medium supports the formation of typical colonies of lactic acid bacteria through the combination of low pH (final pH 6.2±0.2) and specific ions, and is a standard tool for the separation and counting of lactic acid bacteria in dairy products and fermented foods.
