MFC agar

MFC agar is a solid medium for selective separation and enumeration of fecal coliforms. Its basic components are peptone and yeast extract powder, the key additives are bile salt mixture to inhibit gram-positive bacteria, and rose acid and aniline blue are used as indicators. The fecal coliforms ferment lactose to produce acid at 44.5℃, which makes the colonies blue, while the non-target bacteria are mostly colorless or gray. The culture medium realizes the specific detection of fecal coliforms through temperature and selective inhibition system, which is a standard method for water quality hygiene inspection.
