EC-MUG medium

EC-MUG medium is a liquid medium for specific detection of Escherichia coli. Its basic components are tryptone and lactose, and its key additive is 4- methyl umbelliferone -β-D- glucuronide (MUG). β -glucuronidase produced by Escherichia coli can decompose MUG to produce fluorescent substances, which show blue fluorescence under 366nm ultraviolet lamp. This culture medium combines biochemical reaction with fluorescence detection to achieve high specificity identification of Escherichia coli, which is a standard method for microbial inspection of food and water quality.
