MMO-MUG medium

MMO-MUG medium is a liquid medium for simultaneous detection of total coliforms and Escherichia coli in water. Its basic components are peptone and inorganic salts, and its key additives are ONPG and MUG. β -galactosidase produced by total coliform bacteria decomposes ONPG to make the culture medium yellow; β -glucuronidase produced by Escherichia coli decomposes MUG to produce fluorescence under ultraviolet lamp. This culture medium realizes rapid detection by double enzyme substrate reaction, which is a standard method for microbial inspection of water quality.
