Muller-Kauffmann's sodium tetrathionate broth
Muller-Kauffmann's sodium tetrathionate broth
Muller-Kauffmann's sodium sulfite broth is a liquid culture medium used for the selective enrichment of Salmonella. Its basic components are casein peptone and beef extract powder, with sodium sulfite and bile salts as key additives, which can effectively inhibit the growth of coliform bacteria and other contaminants. An iodine-iodide solution is added temporarily as an oxidizing agent. This medium creates a selective environment through the reduction reaction of sulfite salts, promoting the proliferation of Salmonella and serving as the standard pre-enrichment liquid for the detection of Salmonella in food, feed, and environmental samples.
