Slanetz and Bartley medium

Slanetz and Bartley medium is a solid medium used for the selective isolation and enumeration of enterococci. Its basic components are peptone and yeast extract, with sodium azide as the key additive to inhibit Gram-negative bacteria and some Gram-positive bacteria; TTC indicator makes the colonies of enterococci appear red. This medium achieves specific detection of enterococci through selective inhibition and color reaction, and it is the standard method for detecting Streptococcus faecalis group in water, food and environmental samples.
