YGC medium
YGC medium (yeast-impregnated glucose chloramphenicol agar) is a solid medium for selective separation of yeast and mold. Its basic components provide nitrogen source and growth factor for yeast extract and peptone, the key additive is glucose as carbon source, and chloramphenicol inhibits bacterial growth. The culture medium further optimizes the selectivity to fungi through an acidic pH environment (about 5.6), supports the formation of milky colonies by yeasts and characteristic spore structures by molds, and is widely used for microbial limit inspection of medicines, cosmetics and foods, and is a standard tool for monitoring fungal pollution.
