Mycoplasma agar medium is a solid medium for mycoplasma isolation and culture. Its basic components are bovine heart extract and peptone, the key additives are horse serum to provide sterols, and yeast extract to supplement growth factors. This culture medium supports mycoplasma to form characteristic "poached egg"-like colonies, and can inhibit the growth of miscellaneous bacteria when combined with selective inhibitors. It is a standard tool for the separation and identification of mycoplasma in clinical samples and environmental samples.
