DA medium

DA culture medium (De Man Rogosa agar) is a solid culture medium for selective separation of Lactobacillus. Its basic components are peptone and beef extract powder, the key additives are sodium acetate to maintain acidic environment, manganese sulfate to promote growth, and Tween 80 as emulsifier. This culture medium can inhibit mixed bacteria through low pH condition (final pH 5.4±0.2) and support lactobacillus to form typical colonies. It is a standard tool for separating and counting lactobacillus in dairy products, fermented foods and probiotic products.
