Ureaplasma urealyticum broth is a liquid medium for selective culture of Ureaplasma urealyticum. Its basic components are bovine heart extract and peptone, the key additive is urea as the main energy source, and horse serum provides sterols. This culture medium supports Ureaplasma urealyticum to decompose urea to produce alkali, which makes phenol red indicator change from yellow to red. Combined with selective inhibitors, it can inhibit the growth of miscellaneous bacteria, and it is a standard tool for detecting Ureaplasma urealyticum in urogenital specimens.
