Basis of BYP agar medium

BYP agar medium is a basic solid medium for Brucella isolation and culture. Its basic components are casein trypsin digest and yeast extract, which provides comprehensive nutrition; Agar is used as coagulant. Serum or whole blood (5-10%) should be added to the basic culture medium to meet the special growth needs of Brucella. Transparent colonies can be formed when cultured in CO environment for 2-4 weeks, which is a basic tool for brucellosis diagnosis.
