Maikangkai agar medium

Mai Kangkai agar medium is a solid medium for selective separation and identification of gram-negative bacteria. Its basic components are peptone, bile salt and lactose, and bile salt inhibits Gram-positive bacteria. The key additive is neutral red indicator. Gram-negative bacteria (such as Escherichia coli) that ferment lactose form red colonies, while non-fermentative bacteria (such as Salmonella) are colorless and transparent colonies. The culture medium realizes the separation and identification of intestinal bacteria through bile salt inhibition and sugar fermentation reaction, and is a standard tool for microbiological examination.
