Xylose lysine deoxycholate agar medium
Xylose lysine deoxycholate agar medium
Xylose lysine deoxycholate agar medium is a solid medium for selective separation of Salmonella. Its basic components are xylose, lysine and deoxycholate, and xylose fermentation and lysine decarboxylation form an identification system. Deoxycholate inhibits gram-positive bacteria. Salmonella does not ferment xylose but decarboxylates lysine, making the center of colony black (producing HS) and red around it. The culture medium realizes the specific identification of Salmonella through multiple biochemical reactions, and is a standard tool for food microbial inspection.
