JCM medium 161 is a liquid medium for standard preservation of extremely halophilic archaea. Its basic components are 25% sodium chloride and magnesium salt, and the key additives are yeast extract and peptone, which meet the standard formula of Japan Microbiology Collection Center. The culture medium supports the stable growth and long-term preservation of many halophilic archaea through saturated salt concentration and specific ion environment, and is a special tool for standardized management of extreme microbial resources.
