△acr3 Yeast strain
△acr3 Yeast strain
The ACR3 gene encodes an arsenite efflux pump (Acr3p) localized to the plasma membrane, which detoxifies cells by pumping toxic substances out. It represents the prototypical member of the arsenic resistance-3 (Acr3) transporter family. Acr3 yeast mutants primarily refer to strains in Saccharomyces cerevisiae where the ACR3 gene is knocked out, characterized by significantly increased sensitivity to arsenides (arsenites and arsenates). These mutants serve as a crucial model system for studying arsenide toxicity, transporter function, and metal detoxification mechanisms.
